Ha Long Bay —
but on land.
Limestone karsts, river caves, ancient temples. Two hours south of Hanoi and completely worth it.
Ninh Binh is what happens when you take limestone karsts and put rivers through them instead of sea. Boat through cave systems, cycle past rice paddies, climb ancient temples for views that don't look real. Two hours from Hanoi. Completely overlooked by anyone in a hurry — which is precisely why we love it.

Tam Coc
Boat through three river caves carved into limestone mountains. Rice paddies flank the water on either side, farmed by local families who've worked this valley for generations. Still, quiet, and completely unlike anywhere else.
- 3 river cave systems
- 2-hour sampan boat ride
- Local rower (no engine)
- Rice paddy cycling available
- Best at dawn before crowds arrive

Trang An
The longer, wilder version of Tam Coc. A full boat circuit through nine cave systems and hidden valleys — some tunnels so low you have to lie flat in the boat. UNESCO listed. Properly extraordinary.
- 9 caves across 3 routes
- Longer circuit than Tam Coc
- Ancient temples en route
- Bich Dong Pagoda built into cliff face
- Less crowded than Tam Coc

Mua Cave Viewpoint
500 steps carved into a limestone hillside. At the top: a panoramic view of the entire Ninh Binh valley — rice fields, rivers, karsts, and villages as far as you can see. Worth every step.
- 500 stone steps to the summit
- 360° valley panoramic
- Dragon sculpture at the peak
- 30–45 min climb
- Best light: golden hour
October to April. The rice paddies turn golden in September and October — the most spectacular time to visit Ninh Binh.
Two hours south of Hanoi by private car. We handle all transfers — pick-up from your hotel, door to door.
A long day trip from Hanoi covers the highlights. One night lets you experience the valley at dawn, before other visitors arrive.
